Context and model-year identity

The Tata Nexon.ev seen in India during 2024 should not be researched by looking up a single ‘Nexon electric’ range figure. The facelifted compact electric SUV’s battery range evolved, and the later-2024 Nexon.ev 45 is meaningfully different from the medium-range version. The original car and the gasoline/diesel Nexon also occupy distinct consumer decisions even though they look related. Tata’s year-labelled technical brochure documents MR and 45 configurations; it is this source that anchors the figures here. The record concerns Indian vehicles sold in calendar 2024, not an international MY2024 certification.

2024 powertrain and market specifications

Tata’s technical table identifies a 30 kWh MR battery configuration and a 45 kWh larger-battery configuration. Certified MIDC Part 1 plus Part 2 ranges in that brochure are 275 km and 489 km respectively. Those values are test-cycle claims and cannot be presented as observed motorway range, EPA equivalents or WLTP figures. The manufacturer also gives different DC charging time estimates and charging-power conditions for the versions, so the presence of a Type 2/CCS2-style port alone does not establish real-world charge time. Battery capacities in a brochure are not automatically usable-energy measurements.

What to inspect on a used vehicle

Used inspection should focus on the exact battery and software variant, charging history and basic evidence of the vehicle’s charging operation. Ask for a battery-health report using an appropriate manufacturer-supported method where available, and test AC charging as well as a suitable DC session if practical. Examine tyres, underfloor damage and flood-repair indicators carefully; concerns about battery integrity belong with qualified high-voltage technicians, not owner disassembly. Public charging coverage, apartment access and tariff structure may matter more to daily cost than the maximum certified range. Confirm remaining battery warranty eligibility with the VIN and original market contract.

Who it suits and alternative choices

For a daily urban route with convenient home charging, either version can be compelling depending on actual trip length and price. Drivers frequently covering long highway segments should compare the 45 kWh configuration against a larger EV and test expected charging-stop economics. A petrol or diesel Nexon remains a different option for someone without reliable charging. Avoid comparing Tata’s MIDC certification with European WLTP or US EPA figures at face value. A 2024 registration is especially insufficient evidence that an early MR car has a later 45 kWh pack.
