Hyundai Creta Electric 2026 India: 42 vs 51.4 kWh
Market scope: IN. Year basis: documented 2026 commercial sale / update.
What is different about this model?
Hyundai's India-specific Creta Electric is an important example of why a global automotive archive cannot substitute the gasoline Creta or international Kona EV specifications. It is an electric SUV for an established local nameplate, with its own battery, motor and charging specification. Two capacities are clearly listed on Hyundai Motor India's official technical page. The vehicle is described in its ongoing 2026 Indian sales context rather than being assigned an unsupported US-style model-year badge.
Powertrain and verified specifications
The standard 42 kWh variant has a 99 kW motor and quotes 420 km under India's MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 certification. Long Range rises to 51.4 kWh and 126 kW with a 510 km certified figure. Hyundai gives the same body dimensions for both: 4,340 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, a 2,610 mm wheelbase. CCS2 is the charging standard. Those capacity figures belong to this Indian model and cannot be substituted for Korean or Australian Kona battery data.
Which version makes sense?
A shorter daily commute and home charging favour the 42 kWh specification, particularly when the 51.4's additional range would go unused. A driver covering longer intercity routes should assess the larger battery alongside charging-network availability and the added purchase cost. Lower-spec trims do not necessarily include the equipment displayed in high-trim brochures; Hyundai's grade-by-grade equipment page makes that distinction explicit. The choice is not just bigger pack versus smaller pack, but the total vehicle configuration.
Ownership and used-car considerations
The ARAI/MIDC measurements are certification results under controlled conditions, not estimates of a specific road trip. Avoid comparing 510 km MIDC directly with a WLTP or EPA competitor. Check the exact vehicle for AC charge hardware, software updates, charging trouble codes and any local battery service records. For a used EV, confirm whether the specific trim includes the advertised connected features rather than assuming every cabin photograph shows its equipment. The main trade-off is city-friendly body size against charging time on extended journeys.
