2026 Tata Punch.ev: IN Specifications and Buying Guide
Market positioning and model-year evidence
Tata’s updated Punch.ev gives Indian city-car shoppers an option that is not just a petrol Punch with different badging. The 2026 electric update extends the battery menu and builds the case for a small EV as a genuinely useful family second car. Tata’s dedicated product and technical pages document a 40-kWh option, faster-charge claims and local-market range certification; the page must not be repurposed as an EPA or WLTP declaration.
Powertrain and measurable specifications
The manufacturer specifies a 30-kWh battery with a 65-kW motor and a 40-kWh LFP battery with a 95-kW motor; both are quoted at 154 Nm. ARAI/MIDC certification is stated as 365–375 km for the smaller option and 468 km for the 40-kWh variant. Tata separately offers a C75 user indicator: 335–355 km for the 40-kWh version. C75 is manufacturer methodology, not a third-party road test, and these two range presentations are not interchangeable.
Equipment and variant decisions
A buyer should choose battery size by daily energy demand, not just the highest advertised number. The bigger battery and motor suit drivers with less frequent charging opportunities or occasional intercity trips, but carrying more energy can affect price and weight. Equipment such as the larger infotainment screen and electronic driver aids varies by configuration, so the actual ordering document matters more than the most attractive press images.
Ownership and daily-use trade-offs
Home charging, building electrical arrangements and the reliability of local DC infrastructure dictate whether this EV is convenient. The manufacturer’s 20–80 percent charging claim is conditional and is not a promise that every charger or ambient temperature produces the same outcome. Before buying used, obtain verified pack and charging-system diagnostics, software history and local warranty conditions. Do not derive battery longevity predictions from the advertised capacity alone.
Alternatives and purchase checklist
Compare Punch.ev with Tata Nexon.ev when extra cabin space and intercity comfort are priorities, or with MG Comet when an even smaller city footprint matters. Cross-border electric-car range numbers are especially deceptive: India MIDC and manufacturer C75 should be kept separate from EU WLTP. Check the exact 30/40-kWh badge, charger connector and 2026 update before any purchase.
