Vehicle scope: formal MY2020 in US; X247 first-generation, suv. Market/trim verification remains essential.

Documented configuration: US GLB 250: 2.0L turbo petrol 221hp, 8-speed dual-clutch automatic, FWD/4MATIC AWD; Turkey 2020 GLB 200: 163hp petrol 7G-DCT. A quoted range or economy cycle, where present, applies only to its stated market and test procedure.

The 2020 vehicle and its actual year boundary

The 2020 GLB X247 bridges the gap between a compact urban SUV and a larger three-row vehicle. Mercedes-Benz’s US technical sheet explicitly covers five- and seven-seat GLB 250 models, while a separate June 2020 release confirms Turkey’s GLB 200. Their shared body does not justify treating the US 250’s engine and transmission as global specifications.

Verified powertrains and technical limits

The American GLB 250 used a two-litre turbo petrol engine and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with front-wheel drive or 4MATIC. Turkey’s contemporaneous GLB 200 was a 163hp turbo petrol with seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The third row was an option in relevant markets, not an unconditional seven-seat promise; the US maker quotes a 111.4-inch wheelbase and 182.4-inch length.

What it is like to live with this configuration

The GLB can carry more passengers occasionally than most vehicles of comparable exterior size, but rear-most seats and luggage have to share scarce space. Consider whether adult passengers will use row three, whether child seats are fitted and how frequently cargo must travel with seven occupants. 4MATIC is a traction configuration rather than proof of off-road ruggedness. The occasional third-row option should be evaluated as a real-world seating solution, not equated with a full-size seven-seat SUV. Measure child-seat access, adult legroom and remaining luggage space with the seats raised. A US GLB 250 review is also a poor substitute for a Turkish GLB 200 powertrain inspection.

What a used buyer should check in 2026

Test every seat-fold mechanism, sliding/reclining function, third-row belt and tailgate. Check the specific MBUX and driver-assistance packages on the VIN, as marketing images can show optional equipment. A qualified inspection should assess dual-clutch operation, tyre matching on AWD vehicles, cooling system and complete maintenance evidence.

Alternatives and the decision

A Mercedes GLA may be easier to park but lacks this body’s flexible third-row proposition. Kia Sorento and Skoda Kodiaq are larger family alternatives, while a five-seat GLB works best when cargo space matters more than passenger count.
