The Roomy’s compact petrol drivetrain remained focused on easy daily driving, while different grades and drive configurations need identifying before assigning exact output or fuel-economy values. The key documented 2020 change was equipment rather than a major new electrified platform. Toyota announced an expanded Smart Assist suite across the lineup, including additional detection capabilities. The September 2020 Toyota Japan catalogue confirms a 996-cc 1KR-FE three-cylinder petrol producing 51 kW (69 PS) and 92 N·m in the naturally aspirated G; Custom G-T instead uses a turbocharged 996-cc 1KR-VET rated at 72 kW (98 PS) and 140 N·m. Inspect sliding-door mechanisms, electronics, heater and air-conditioning, wheel alignment, CVT drivability where equipped and traces of parking collisions. A 2020 Roomy imported abroad needs a market-specific insurance and parts check; the nameplate might have been marketed by a related Japanese brand but that does not prove all trim parts are interchangeable.
Alternatives and who it suits
Honda Freed is a larger, potentially more versatile family option, while Suzuki Solio targets similar compact-space priorities. Pick Roomy for ease of manoeuvring and clear sightlines rather than off-road aspirations. Keep the September 2020 updated model distinct from earlier registration-year stock.
