How the system fits the market
The Stellantis 48-volt hybrid eDCT family is more capable at low speed than the phrase mild hybrid may suggest. In the documented 2024 European Hybrid 136 application, it includes an electric motor integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a small lithium-ion battery. Stellantis says the car can move for short periods with the petrol engine shut off under suitable conditions, particularly during manoeuvring or gentle urban driving. That does not make it a full plug-in hybrid: the 0.9 kWh pack is very small and is not externally charged.
How the hardware works
The company lists a 21 kW (28 hp) integrated electric drive and a 0.9 kWh, 48-volt battery for the cited specification. Engine restart and energy management are handled alongside the dual-clutch control, and regenerative braking recovers energy for later assistance. The conventional component is a 1.2-litre petrol engine in the Peugeot 308 and 408 Hybrid 136 releases. A dual-clutch gearbox has stepped ratios and clutch engagement; it should not be labelled a CVT simply because the driving interface shows an automatic selector.
Verified versions and regional limits
Stellantis describes wide adoption across its European brands, but that does not establish that every 2024 Peugeot, Citroen, Opel or Jeep badge has the same motor rating, 0.9 kWh battery or internal gearbox revision. The 2024 UK Peugeot announcement specifically identifies 308 and 408 variants paired with the e-DSC6. For an additional make or country, obtain the precise engine/transmission code and market trim sheet. Furthermore, references to ‘PureTech’ span multiple combustion-engine revisions; this release alone is not proof of a particular belt, chain or service-interval design.
Ownership, maintenance and alternatives
A shopper’s choice is between lower urban fuel use with occasional electric creep and the added complexity of electric hardware within a conventional gearbox. Unlike a PHEV, home charging is not necessary; unlike a pure EV, engine oil and emissions maintenance remain. Dual-clutch service should follow the exact transmission’s maintenance plan, not a generic transmission-fluid interval. Stellantis gives useful manufacturer claims about short electric operation, but the percentage of a real urban journey driven electrically depends on conditions and is not a guarantee. Claims about long-term gearbox reliability require separate field evidence that is not available in these sources.
