2021 Renault Arkana: European CMF-B lineage — EU

Model-year identity and market scope

The European Renault Arkana arrived in 2021 as a swooping-roofline crossover, but the name also existed in other markets with different engineering histories. This entry addresses the European CMF-B-related car rather than assuming it is identical to a Russian-market Arkana or Korean XM3. Renault’s 2020 announcement identified European launch timing in the first half of 2021, and its June 2021 communication described the E-TECH Hybrid 145 powertrain actually being presented to buyers.

2021 powertrains and engineering

The E-TECH Hybrid 145 combines a gasoline engine with two electric motors and Renault’s clutchless multimode transmission. It is a conventional hybrid rather than a plug-in: customers do not specify a charging cable or external charge time. Renault also offered 12V mild-hybrid petrol powertrains in the European line, but those are not mechanically equivalent to the full hybrid. Exact TCe outputs and variant-level emissions require a country and build date; they must not be filled from the Korean-market XM3.

Verified period variants

  • E-TECH Hybrid 145 (EU): 1.6 L gasoline with 2 electric motors; 145 PS system; clutchless multimode hybrid transmission; FWD. 2021 European 145PS non-plug hybrid; do not project Korea XM3 engine
  • 12V mild-hybrid petrol family (EU): 1.3 L TCe petrol with 12V assistance in applicable EU grades; market-specific automatic; FWD. 150/160 naming and individual market homologation requires local evidence

Equipment, competitors and practical differences

The Arkana’s styling is a major part of its offer, yet the swept roof also demands a practical rear-seat headroom assessment, particularly if tall adults sit behind taller front occupants. Renault cited a 4.57-metre length and 2.72-metre wheelbase, showing that the car is not simply an elevated Clio with cosmetic plastic cladding. For a similar budget, compare a more conventionally shaped Captur or a roomier family hatch rather than assuming coupé styling is always useful.

Who should buy it, and who might prefer an alternative?

Its full hybrid is relevant to urban commuters who want an electrified car without a charging routine. Buyers frequently hauling large boxes, dogs or tall rear passengers should test the hatch opening and seat space, not judge storage solely from litres advertised for a particular battery variant. Quoted laboratory urban electric-driving proportions are manufacturer claims and should never be rendered as guaranteed real-world operation.

What a 2026 used buyer should verify

On used vehicles, verify whether the registration lists E-TECH full hybrid or a mild-hybrid TCe, then check gearbox behavior and any manufacturer software records. Photograph the original trim and inspect parking sensors and driver-assistance warnings. Do not mix UK right-hand-drive grades with continental launch specifications without a local brochure.
