2022 Nissan Sakura: Specifications, Variants and Buying Guide
2022 Nissan Sakura — this record documents the JP calendar-2022 commercial introduction/sale-year configuration of the kei hatchback. It does not assume a single worldwide drivetrain, certified range or equipment list.
What changed and why it matters
The Nissan Sakura introduced an unusually accessible form of everyday electric mobility to Japan in 2022: a true kei-class small car designed for tight streets and short local journeys. It is not an overseas-market compact EV cut down to fit a tax class; its small footprint and cabin packaging address Japanese urban use directly. The Sakura's range number must be viewed in the context of Japan's WLTC cycle and a much smaller battery than most international crossover EVs.
Powertrains, batteries and 2022 market specifications
- JP · 2022 Sakura standard drive system — single-motor 20 kWh battery electric; FWD; single-speed. battery capacity kWh: 20; motor output kW: 47; motor torque nm: 195; wltc range km: 180; seats: 4. Cycle: WLTC Japan.
Who should consider it?
Nissan specified a 20 kWh battery with a 47 kW electric motor and 195 Nm of torque, seating for four and a 180 km Japanese WLTC range. Those numbers describe a coherent urban proposition: useful low-speed electric response, simple charging needs and manageable parking dimensions. A household that rarely drives far and has convenient home charging may need much less energy storage than the owner of a highway-focused family SUV.
Ownership trade-offs and limitations
The limitation is just as important as the appeal. The Sakura is not intended to duplicate the long-distance flexibility of a 60–80 kWh electric crossover. Heating, steep roads, expressway speeds and ageing can influence the usable daily margin. Confirm a used example's battery state, charging socket condition and assistance equipment by original grade. Local kei-car rules and incentives are jurisdictional, so no benefit can be assumed for a privately exported vehicle.
Worthwhile alternatives
The closely related Mitsubishi eK X EV is a particularly relevant Japanese alternative, while a Nissan Leaf provides a physically larger battery-electric footprint and a different ownership case. A small hybrid or petrol kei car may remain more flexible where home charging is impossible. The Sakura is compelling when its exact compact-city mission matches the owner's real week, and far less convincing as a single all-purpose long-distance car.
2022 identity and data caveats
All figures are Nissan's 2022 Japan announcement and the 180 km result is WLTC, not WLTP, CLTC or EPA.
