2023 Suzuki Jimny 5-door — Suv Buyer’s Guide
Scope: 2023 documented regional sale year; IN market evidence. Other markets may differ.

Why the 2023 version matters
The five-door Jimny introduced for India in 2023 is not simply a longer spec line for the three-door car. Suzuki added rear doors and rear seating packaging to its fourth-generation small off-roader, making it more plausible for occasional family use without hiding its rugged, compact design priorities. In markets where both shapes exist, body style belongs in the canonical identity, because dimensions and buyer purpose differ.
Confirmed 2023 specifications
Suzuki's original Indian specification gives the five-door vehicle a length of 3,985 mm, width of 1,645 mm and wheelbase of 2,590 mm. The launch engine is a 1.5-liter petrol paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic. These are India-specific 2023 figures; three-door Japanese kei-class Jimny engine specifications and other regional emissions calibrations should not be copied onto it.
Strengths, compromises and intended buyer
The appeal remains a dedicated light off-road package rather than a polished crossover. A longer wheelbase and extra rear access add practicality, but the narrow body and upright structure make it essential to try the rear seating, luggage area and on-road refinement before buying. The traditional automatic may suit slow maneuvering, whereas drivers who spend most of their week on highways should evaluate noise and gearing against more conventional small SUVs.
What to inspect before buying used
A responsible 2026 assessment means checking underbody damage, corrosion where relevant, four-wheel-drive engagement, suspension modifications and tyre fitment. Those checks apply to working off-road vehicles generally; they are not claims that this particular Jimny has a documented systemic failure. Match spare parts to the five-door chassis, inspect import homologation documents and ensure the actual gearbox and safety features match the advertised Indian grade.
Alternatives and the verdict
It makes sense for drivers who need genuine off-road geometry in a small footprint but cannot live with the three-door's rear access. Suzuki Fronx or a larger Brezza are likely better choices for predominantly paved commuting; a more substantial body-on-frame SUV may be the right step for heavy loads. Do not assume the 2023 five-door has the same seat, trim or engine as the older three-door sold overseas.
