2023 Wuling Binguo — Hatchback Buyer’s Guide
Scope: 2023 documented regional sale year; CN market evidence. Other markets may differ.
Specification note: Ratings and measurements apply only to the cited market, model and variant. Manufacturer claims are not independent road-test measurements.
Why the 2023 version matters
SAIC-GM-Wuling launched the five-door Binguo, also rendered Bin Guo or Bingo, in China in March 2023. This was a meaningful move beyond the brand's tiny two-door urban EV formula: a compact hatchback that offered everyday rear-door access and an unusually approachable sticker price. All three spellings should resolve to one canonical 2023 vehicle record rather than three supposedly different cars.
Confirmed 2023 specifications
General Motors' official China release identifies a 3,950-mm length, 1,708-mm width, 1,580-mm height and 2,560-mm wheelbase. At launch, five variants carried China CLTC-labelled electric ranges of 203 or 333 km, with original prices from RMB 59,800 to RMB 83,800. Those distance figures are China CLTC certifications, not European WLTP, US EPA or the range this website has achieved in a road test.
Strengths, compromises and intended buyer
For urban buyers, the five-door body and moderate external length are the clearest strengths. But low purchase cost must be weighed against equipment differences between the launch versions, charging speed and connector arrangements, and the practical need for a local servicing route. The Binguo's position in the Chinese market does not automatically prove it will be inexpensive to maintain or register if privately imported to another country.
What to inspect before buying used
A 2026 used-car assessment should document the Chinese trim and battery specification, because later longer-range updates could be accidentally advertised as the first-year configuration. Inspect the charge inlet, battery and thermal management information available through the official service channel, accident repairs and electronic feature operation. Also clarify language options, connectivity support, homologation and spare-parts channels outside China before assigning any cross-border resale value.
Alternatives and the verdict
Consider the Binguo as a small city EV, not a long-distance hatchback replacement based solely on the largest CLTC number. Compare similarly compact Chinese domestic vehicles such as the BYD Seagull on local charging and cabin requirements, but do not transplant their battery or safety figures. Outside China, a locally supported MG4 or BYD Dolphin may be a less adventurous ownership route despite a different price class.
