Identity and model-year context
The 2024 Equinox EV is a newly developed, battery-electric Chevrolet crossover sold in the United States, not an electric drivetrain installed in the older gasoline Equinox body. Chevrolet’s May 2024 product disclosure establishes the market launch and documents separate front-drive and all-wheel-drive variants. This is a particularly important nameplate collision for used-car search: an online listing may say “Equinox” without revealing whether it is the electric-only architecture or the conventional gasoline SUV. Buyers should confirm the EV designation, build sheet and original charging specification before comparing prices or arranging a long-distance collection.
Powertrain and market details
Chevrolet quoted 213 hp and 236 lb-ft for the single-motor front-drive model and 288 hp with 333 lb-ft for dual-motor AWD, identified in the manufacturer material as GM-estimated system performance. The corresponding 2024 US EPA estimates are 319 miles of range for FWD and 285 for AWD on a full charge, subject to configuration. GM also described DC fast charging at up to 150 kW and an 11.5 kW AC onboard charger in relevant models. These figures have distinct meanings: charger peak power is not a constant charging rate, and the EPA cycle is not the same as WLTP.
Used buying: equipment and practicality
The large central display, Google-based infotainment and available hands-free driver assistance are selling points, but the exact technology subscription and trim availability should be verified with the individual vehicle. A used example needs evidence that both AC and DC charging work, a qualified battery-system inspection if indicated, confirmation of any dealer software campaigns and a check of accident and wheel damage. Chevrolet’s 2024 announcement also mentioned a lower-priced base LT ordering later in the year, so buyers should not assume every photographed 2024 EV has the later entry-grade equipment. Public charging costs and available home wiring should shape the ownership calculation.
Who it suits, limitations and alternatives
This Equinox EV suits a buyer who wants five-seat crossover practicality and can reliably plug in. Compare it with the Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 using market-specific battery and range figures instead of selecting the model with the largest unqualified mileage number. A buyer unable to charge regularly might be better served by a conventional hybrid. Even when the advertised EPA figure looks sufficient, cold temperatures, motorway speeds, hills and ageing can alter practical travel distance. There is no unsourced claim here about battery failure rates, depreciation or an individual VIN’s recall eligibility.
