Vehicle scope: calendar-year 2020 introduction or documented sale in JP; B44A/B45A new super-height kei, minivan. Market/trim verification remains essential.
Documented configuration: Japan kei 660cc-class petrol range with naturally aspirated/turbo grade availability; Xtronic CVT, front-wheel drive/4WD by model; confirm chassis grade before exact output. A quoted range or economy cycle, where present, applies only to its stated market and test procedure.
The 2020 vehicle and its actual year boundary
Nissan launched the new Roox on 19 March 2020, replacing the Dayz Roox name in Japan. This very tall, short kei-class wagon was jointly developed in the Nissan–Mitsubishi NMKV arrangement. It must not be treated as a European compact MPV merely because a translation calls it a minivan; Japanese kei dimensions, ownership rules and parking constraints shape its design.
Verified powertrains and technical limits
The official launch presents improved engine response and a high cabin with sliding-door family convenience, plus available ProPILOT highway assistance. The Roox uses the local kei-engine class with continuously variable transmission arrangements, but exact naturally aspirated/turbo and two/four-wheel-drive fitment should be verified against the chassis and grade. Advanced assistance is not permission for hands-free driving.
What it is like to live with this configuration
For dense Japanese urban streets, a tall box body and sliding doors create remarkably useful access in a restricted footprint. Crosswinds, motorway refinement and performance with a full passenger load are legitimate comparison points, not claims of a specific measured weakness. This vehicle particularly suits school runs, elderly passengers and narrow home parking spaces. A tall sliding-door kei car can make school-run loading simpler without requiring a long vehicle. However, its compact cabin and low-powered engine class are a different proposition from a full-size minivan on hills or motorways. Check door motor operation if fitted and cabin ventilation with passengers aboard.
What a used buyer should check in 2026
On a used import inspect sliding-door tracks and motors, floor corrosion and drainage, accident repairs near the tall door aperture and cabin wear from family duties. Confirm the vehicle meets the registration and parts-support rules of the destination country. A Japan-only infotainment or driver-support unit may have language and map limitations abroad.
Alternatives and the decision
Honda N-BOX and Daihatsu Tanto serve the same super-height kei role, although equipment and architecture vary. Nissan Dayz is a shorter, less cargo-focused alternative, while a conventional compact hatchback may be preferable for sustained highway travel.
