2021 Nissan Note Aura: E13 premium derivative
Nissan’s 2021 Note Aura is a premium variation of the Japanese Note with a more refined cabin and stronger electric-motor traction. It deserves its own buying context because the Aura’s wider, upscale body and updated powertrain change the proposition from the standard commuter hatchback. It is nevertheless an e-POWER hybrid, not a plug-in electric car.
Which 2021 vehicle is this?
Nissan launched the Note Aura in Japan in August 2021 with G and G Four variants. Its second-generation e-POWER system uses a petrol engine to generate electricity while the traction motor drives the wheels, unlike a traditional petrol CVT. Official documentation lists 100 kW and 300 Nm from the front motor, and all-wheel-drive versions add an electrically driven rear axle.
This profile applies to Japan and identifies a vehicle offered during calendar 2021. Registrations, facelifts and equipment in other jurisdictions are not interchangeable. A specification mentioned below applies only to the named version; optional equipment and later software or homologation changes need separate documentation.

Driven wheels: FWD or electric AWD in G Four
Launch timing: Japan sales began August 2021
Powertrain architecture: Second-generation series e-POWER, wheels electrically driven
Premium differentiation: Upmarket wider body and enhanced noise insulation from standard Note

What matters in everyday ownership
The Aura appeals to city and suburban users who want the immediacy of electric-motor drive without planning public charging stops. Enhanced soundproofing, premium cabin materials and available audio technology distinguish it from an ordinary Note. Drivers should still budget for petrol, engine maintenance and a hybrid system inspection: regenerative braking and electric traction do not make it a battery-electric car.
Used-buying checks in 2026
Verify whether the example is G two-wheel drive or G Four electric AWD and identify factory audio and assistance equipment. Test smooth changes in engine-generator operation, hybrid warnings, braking response and cabin electronics; unusual high-voltage findings call for a specialist. Because this is a Japan-market domestic model, imported-car service and infotainment language support are especially important.
Alternatives and limits
A standard third-generation Nissan Note gives similar e-POWER logic with a simpler cabin, while Toyota Aqua focuses on a conventional full-hybrid hatchback package. Honda Fit e:HEV is another city-sized petrol/electric alternative. Used-car listings that call the Note Aura a full electric car are misleading because the system still consumes gasoline.
