2021 Nissan Note: E13 3rd generation — JP

Nissan's third-generation Note e-POWER straddles the 2020 and 2021 calendar boundary in Japan. The front-drive version was launched in late 2020, while Nissan's period announcements specified the all-wheel-drive derivative for 2021 sales. That means this is a 2021 Japanese sale-year record rather than evidence that the entire third generation first appeared during 2021. The E13 identity also separates it from older Note models marketed in other regions under the same familiar name.

Documented 2021 market specifications

The following specifications are restricted to the identified market, model-year or sale-year and cited variant. They must not be applied to an unrelated region or trim.

  • JP · e-POWER AWD: gasoline generator and front/rear electric-drive system; electric drive; engine does not mechanically drive wheels; e-4ORCE-style electric AWD, as marketed Note AWD; Propulsion Type: series-hybrid e-POWER AWD; test: WLTC market-specific

Powertrain and model-year differences

The Note e-POWER uses a series-hybrid layout in which a gasoline engine generates electrical energy and the wheels are propelled electrically. The manufacturer highlighted the revised generation of e-POWER and an AWD layout using electric motor control at both axles for applicable variants. This is not a plug-in hybrid, and it should not be given a charge-port specification or a battery-only EPA driving range. Fuel-efficiency figures belong to the actual Japanese WLTC-certified grade and are left unpopulated here where a specific 2021 AWD certificate was not verified. Motor outputs also should not be transferred from a later Note Aura or a front-drive base model.

Who should consider it — and who should not

The Note's attraction is electric-motor-style low-speed response without requiring home charging, packaged in a compact hatchback for city and suburban duties. In snow-prone Japanese regions, the AWD version offers a different traction proposition from the ordinary front-drive model, although winter tires remain crucial. Compare it with Toyota Aqua and Honda Fit e:HEV according to seating, local servicing and the driving experience of each hybrid architecture. A buyer expecting long-range battery-electric motoring should choose a different vehicle rather than misunderstand the e-POWER badge.

Used-buying checks and ownership trade-offs

Before purchasing an imported or Japan-registered example, inspect the original domestic grade, drive system, service documentation and hybrid-system diagnostic status. Verify instrument and infotainment language support and registration conformity in any destination country. Used examples should be checked for repairs and sensor function rather than judged by a manufacturer's economy headline. Do not collapse the 2021 AWD derivative into every 2020 Note listing, and avoid treating the marketing name as proof of parts compatibility with earlier Note generations.
