2021 XPeng G3: 1st generation
The 2021 XPeng G3 sits at a critical boundary between the manufacturer’s first compact electric SUV and its heavily promoted G3i refresh. Early-2021 registered G3 cars should not automatically receive the front styling, infotainment equipment or advertised range of the new G3i. For a second-hand buyer, the exact build period matters more than the year printed in a classified advertisement.
Which 2021 vehicle is this?
XPeng’s 2021 annual report confirms first G3 deliveries in December 2018, further G3 versions using lithium iron phosphate cells in March 2021, and the G3i facelift in July with customer deliveries in August. These dates ground the original 2021 calendar-year G3 entry. China specification and battery chemistry can vary by version, so this profile intentionally does not invent a universal gross or usable pack size.
This profile applies to China and identifies a vehicle offered during calendar 2021. Registrations, facelifts and equipment in other jurisdictions are not interchangeable. A specification mentioned below applies only to the named version; optional equipment and later software or homologation changes need separate documentation.
Documented 2021 powertrain and specifications

Transmission: Single-speed electric drive
Driven wheels: FWD
Model lifecycle: G3 delivered from December 2018, sold in 2021 before July G3i introduction
Battery developments: LFP-equipped G3 version introduced March 2021; no blanket chemistry by nameplate
Boundary: G3i facelift introduced July 2021; new records belong to G3i
Efficiency/range protocol: China NEDC; do not import WLTP or EPA distances from overseas derivative cars
What matters in everyday ownership
The original G3 is a relevant early mass-produced Chinese smart-EV crossover, with an elevated seating format suited to congested urban roads. Its older electronics and cabin layout may prove less attractive than the facelift’s. Battery chemistry changes complicate broad used-market advice: two visually comparable G3s do not necessarily have identical charging responses or pack construction.
Used-buying checks in 2026
Obtain XPeng documentation showing G3 versus G3i, factory date, motor variant and battery chemistry. Review on-board diagnostics, charge history and the vehicle’s current software state. Verify whether connected services and mobile-app features are transferable in the buyer’s jurisdiction. For any imported example outside China, charging connector compatibility, official service availability and language support need independent checks.
Alternatives and limits
The 2021 G3i is the most directly relevant update within the same lineage. NIO ES6 offers a significantly different size and ownership proposition; an MG ZS EV can offer a different support network depending on country. Avoid direct numerical range comparisons without the same Chinese NEDC measurement basis, tire specification and test year.
