2022 Nissan Qashqai: UK Specifications and 2026 Ownership Guide
Verified market: UK. Documented 2022 sale/introduction; some markets do not use formal model-year labels.
2022 vehicle identity and buyer context
The third-generation Nissan Qashqai J12 was already a mainstay of the UK/European crossover segment in 2022. Its 2022 electrification story adds a particularly important distinction: an ordinary mild-hybrid turbo-petrol Qashqai is not the same mechanical system as the later-arriving e-POWER variant. Both are gasoline-fuelled vehicles, yet the way engine power reaches the road is substantially different.
Powertrains and market-specific specifications
The conventional J12 offering uses a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline family with electrified assistance in selected variants. With e-POWER the combustion engine generates electricity and the traction motor propels the wheels; that is not a plug-in electric Qashqai with an externally chargeable traction battery. Transmission and AWD claims need to be tied to the exact country and powertrain, rather than copying configurations from the model’s prior J11 generation.
Verified variant distinctions
| 2022 UK variant | Powertrain | Transmission | Drive | Applicable certified figure / note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qashqai J12 petrol | 1.3 L gasoline turbo with market-dependent mild hybrid | manual or automatic according to market | FWD or selected AWD | generation: J12; exact 2022 UK trim equipment not assumed |
| Qashqai e-POWER Europe 2022 | gasoline engine used as generator with electric-wheel propulsion | electric drive; no conventional wheel-drive gasoline gearbox | FWD | technology: series-hybrid principle; certified consumption requires country/trim sheet |
Trims, equipment and model-year distinctions
Nissan introduced e-POWER in the European Qashqai range during 2022. This is a genuine calendar-year change and not proof that every used J12 registered early in 2022 has the new system. Country order timing and exact equipment can vary. The J12 body also has a separate safety rescue-sheet identity, useful for distinguishing it from the earlier J11 in technical documentation.
What matters to a 2026 used buyer
In 2026 examine the exact powertrain displayed in the registration and service history, check software and driver-assistance operation, and verify any VIN-based service campaigns. Families may value Qashqai’s accessible cabin height and five-seat configuration, but cargo use and city parking should be assessed against measured needs. An e-POWER owner still refuels gasoline and has no conventional long-distance external charging itinerary.
Should you buy it? Alternatives and limitations
Compare the Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HR-V or the compact Hyundai Tucson depending on market availability and engine, rather than assuming identical vehicle classes and specifications around the world. No single EPA or WLTP consumption figure is assigned without an original UK homologation table for the specific 2022 engine and trim.
