2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz: Specifications, Variants and Buying Guide
2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz — this record documents the EU calendar-2022 commercial introduction/sale-year configuration of the minivan. It does not assume a single worldwide drivetrain, certified range or equipment list.
What changed and why it matters
The first European 2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz passenger van translated classic microbus visual cues into a modern MEB-based battery-electric people mover. This entry covers the five-seat passenger vehicle launched in Europe in calendar 2022, not the separate ID. Buzz Cargo commercial van and not the later, longer-wheelbase U.S. model. That distinction is critical: seating layout, battery availability and marketing claims changed as the wider ID. Buzz family developed.
Powertrains, batteries and 2022 market specifications
- EU · 2022 passenger five-seat RWD — single-motor battery electric; RWD; single-speed. battery gross kWh: 82; battery usable kWh: 77; output kW: 150; wltp range km: 402–423 km depending on configuration; dc peak charge kW: 170. Cycle: WLTP.
Who should consider it?
For families seeking substantial interior height, an elevated seating position and flexible luggage access, the original passenger ID. Buzz offers a very different experience from a low electric hatchback. Volkswagen specified a rear-mounted 150 kW electric drive with 77 kWh usable capacity from an 82 kWh gross pack. Its period WLTP combined range of approximately 402–423 km is configuration dependent. This is a European WLTP statement, not a conversion to EPA miles.
Ownership trade-offs and limitations
The van-like profile makes urban parking dimensions, garage height and wheelbase more important than for a typical compact SUV. Although the sliding doors benefit narrow parking spaces, its mass and blunt body may influence highway energy use. Public fast-charging claims are peak-capability figures, not guaranteed average speed. Buyers comparing used examples should verify navigation software, charge behavior, wheel specification and what equipment was actually offered in that country in 2022.
Worthwhile alternatives
A conventional Volkswagen Multivan accommodates a different set of long-distance fueling needs. An electric passenger SUV such as the Skoda Enyaq can be less boxy and more familiar to drive, but it does not duplicate the Buzz's door access and packaging. Select the original ID. Buzz if the passenger-minivan layout is an asset, not merely because the styling resembles an iconic Volkswagen.
2022 identity and data caveats
This record is a documented 2022 European commercial introduction, not proof of a formal 2022 model-year badge in every EU jurisdiction. Later seven-seat and U.S. variants are excluded.
