What changed or distinguishes 2023: All-new Brazilian-developed Ram pickup: pre-sales June, initial dealer availability August 2023.
The powertrain and its rating context
Ram Rampage is a distinct Brazilian-market pickup, not a renamed US Ram 1500 or a variant of the Ram 700. Stellantis announced it in June 2023 as a Brazilian-designed and engineered vehicle, and described an initial range combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane 4 petrol engine with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel choice. Its 272-cv claim is in Brazilian metric horsepower; copying the numeral as US SAE hp without conversion is inaccurate. The launch announcement also specifies four-wheel drive and nine-speed automatic transmission across the initial offer.
Where this vehicle makes sense
That dual-engine strategy tells a buyer to identify the powertrain before drawing conclusions about running costs. The Hurricane 4 version is positioned toward stronger road performance, while the diesel option is a different proposition for steady-distance use and tasks where low-speed delivery matters. Exact approved towing, payload and tyre figures should come from the Brazilian grade handbook, rather than from the fact that both versions share the same pickup outline.
Practical compromises for 2026 shoppers
Laramie, Rebel and R/T represented different design and equipment personalities at launch. Ram marketed the Rampage as unusually technology-rich for its Brazilian segment, including available connected features and driver assistance. Some connected services may require activation, a valid subscription or supported cellular network in 2026. Therefore an owner should demonstrate working functions, not simply cite the first-day launch catalogue. A used buyer also needs to determine whether a 2023 car is petrol or diesel from registration and its build label.
Used-car inspection priorities
Inspect bed condition, rear suspension wear, evidence of overload, trailer electrical connections and collision repairs. Road-test the nine-speed gearbox after warm-up and review maintenance specifically for the fitted petrol or diesel engine. For an imported vehicle, confirm national fuel compatibility and authorised diagnostic/service access. Campaign status and emissions compliance can only be established for the individual VIN and destination jurisdiction; a Brazilian press release does not establish eligibility elsewhere.
Alternatives and model-year boundaries
Fiat Toro and Chevrolet Montana are relevant Brazilian small/mid pickup alternatives, but a comparison should control for drivetrain, bed and cabin use. The much larger US Ram 1500 is not a direct body-size peer and must not share this canonical identity.
