The 2024 Ridgeline targets a particular truck user: someone who wants a practical open bed and comfortable daily transportation, but does not require the most severe working-load credentials of a large body-on-frame pickup. The 2024 addition of a TrailSport grade makes the line appear more adventure-oriented, yet it does not change the platform into a conventional heavy-duty ladder-frame truck. Honda also retained distinctive features such as its lockable in-bed storage compartment, which can make shopping, camping and wet-gear management easier.

Powertrain and 2024 market specification

The US model-year chart specifies a 3,471 cc V6 rated at 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft, paired with a nine-speed automatic and Honda’s i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system. Honda lists a maximum tow rating of 5,000 lb for the covered grades, subject to operating and equipment requirements. The TrailSport introduces all-terrain tyres, revised suspension tuning and protective hardware; its published combined EPA consumption is not identical to every other grade. A Ridgeline bought in another country should not automatically inherit the American tow and safety configurations.

What to examine on a used example

Inspect used examples as both road vehicles and working tools. Look underneath the bed and at rear suspension components for damage from load use or off-road driving. Test the tailgate’s operating modes and the security and drainage of the in-bed trunk. Confirm tyres match the intended use, check service documentation for the V6 and transmission, and verify that AWD operation shows no warning indicators. Towing hardware, hitch installation and trailer electrical connections deserve separate scrutiny when the previous owner reports frequent towing.

Buyer fit, limitations and alternatives

The Ridgeline’s benefits include versatile storage, easier everyday manoeuvring than many larger pickups and a passenger-focused cabin. Its drawbacks become clearer when comparing maximum payload, heavy trailer requirements or sustained off-road duty with a Ford Ranger or Chevrolet Colorado. The TrailSport badge is not a substitute for route-appropriate ground clearance, tyres and recovery planning. A buyer who only occasionally carries bulky gear may be better served by a crossover, while someone needing maximum work capacity should compare rated figures, not pickup appearance.
