The fifth-generation 2024 Santa Fe is not simply the previous rounded Hyundai SUV with square lamps added. Its dramatic boxy body, considerably wider tailgate opening and new cabin layout target practical family and outdoor tasks. Hyundai introduced the new car in Korea in 2023 and documented North American and European commercial introduction in the first half of 2024, so model-year and calendar-year descriptions need separate handling across countries.

Powertrains and market-specific specifications

The North American range brings a 2.5-litre turbocharged gasoline engine and a 1.6-litre turbo hybrid powertrain, using different transmission technologies. The gasoline version employs a dual-clutch gearbox while the hybrid uses a conventional automatic arrangement. That makes driving behaviour, brake feel and ownership cost comparisons more meaningful than a simplistic badge ranking. The Korean, European and US power figures and emissions rules should not be mixed, and no numerical rating from one jurisdiction is imposed on all versions here.

Equipment, usability and model-year changes

Hyundai's period launch material concentrates on the redesigned wide tailgate, longer wheelbase and improved third-row space. Many advertised convenience features, including special relaxation seating, dual wireless charging and the panoramic display, depend on local market and equipment packages. Before buying, test third-row access with the people who would actually use it and measure luggage space with the rear seats in their normal positions.

Used-buyer inspection and ownership trade-offs

Check a used Santa Fe for seal condition around its large tailgate, unusual noises from its actual transmission, roof-rack or tow-bar installation, and the condition of its tyres and underbody. Make sure every driver-assistance sensor and camera works without fault messages. A newly designed vehicle does not yet have a scientifically established reliability history just because isolated online anecdotes circulate. Use records, inspection and VIN-specific service campaigns.

Which buyers should consider it?

The Santa Fe suits households that value useful cabin volume and occasionally carry a larger group while avoiding a full-size SUV. Compare a Kia Sorento for somewhat different cabin packaging and a Hyundai Palisade if third-row carrying is frequent. A traditional minivan still offers better sliding-door access for some families. Choose between gasoline and hybrid only after matching actual local specifications and yearly driving habits.
