VEHICLE OVERVIEWMotorRift

The 2024 Mahindra XUV700 is an equipment-enhanced version of the SUV launched in 2021, not a newly engineered XUV model. The main reason for a buyer to look closely at 2024 production is its expanded feature list: new cabin colour options, connected functions and revised seating arrangements on upper grades. A chauffeur-oriented family may care more about optional captain seats and ventilated front seats than horsepower claims, while a long-distance user will prioritise drivetrain choice and service history. No single engine or safety-package description is valid for every grade.

Verified powertrains and equipment

Mahindra’s January 15, 2024 factory communication confirms the 2024 version and upgrades, including ventilated front seats on AX7L, seat-profile-linked mirror memory, additional connected features and optional captain seating on relevant high grades. The wider Indian family continues with petrol and diesel engine choices and transmission selections carried from the existing generation; the 2024 announcement itself does not supply precise power/torque for every variant, so those numbers are intentionally left out rather than imported from a later brochure. All-wheel-drive availability must also be checked against the vehicle’s original configuration.

What to check before buying used

Try the second and third rows with the same number of passengers you intend to carry. A seven-seat bench layout and a six-seat captain arrangement behave differently for child seats and luggage. Confirm that the ventilated seats, connected-car subscription, camera systems and driver-assistance features shown in an advertisement exist and work on the selected example. Ask for the service history and examine tyres, suspension and brakes with special care if the vehicle spent much of its life fully loaded on poor roads. Imported units may not retain local connected functionality.

Best fit, compromises and competitors

The XUV700 suits Indian families wanting a roomy SUV and extensive higher-trim technology without moving to a full-size truck. It is a less efficient use of space for solo urban commuting and can be hard to park in older districts. Compare Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus using passenger layout, exact engine and local support. Do not interpret Mahindra’s promotional feature count as evidence that every AX3 or MX car carries premium ADAS equipment, and do not invent a crash-rating update for the 2024 equipment release.
