Context and model-year identity
The American-market 2024 Toyota Camry is the last of the XV70 generation before the substantially revised 2025 US car replaced it. That distinction matters when reading second-hand listings: unlike the hybrid-only 2025 Camry, the 2024 offered gasoline four-cylinder, V6 and conventional full-hybrid choices. It suits buyers wanting a settled midsize sedan with genuine powertrain variety instead of a newly released platform. Toyota’s documentation places this vehicle in the US 2024 model year, even though sales began during calendar 2023; other countries use different engines and model-year conventions.
2024 powertrain and market specifications
The regular 2.5-litre Dynamic Force four-cylinder uses an eight-speed automatic, with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive depending on grade. Toyota gives 203 hp for a typical front-drive configuration, but certain dual-exhaust and AWD grades have different figures. The available 3.5-litre V6 is paired with the eight-speed automatic and is not the hybrid. The Camry Hybrid combines a 2.5-litre engine and electric system for 208 net combined hp through an e-CVT. Toyota’s manufacturer estimate of up to 52 mpg combined is limited to the LE Hybrid, not every Camry.
What to inspect on a used vehicle
Used-buyer inspection should begin with the actual powertrain and trim because two identically badged cars can differ in fuel use, ride quality and servicing complexity. Check the window sticker or build information rather than accepting a dealer’s claim that all 2024 Camrys have AWD or that the hybrid shares the eight-speed gearbox. In traffic-heavy driving a hybrid may fit better, but a V6 shopper is usually prioritising linear performance over economy. Check repair history, tyres, replacement glass and operation of driver aids. Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is not the same generation as the newer 2025 car’s technology.
Who it suits and alternative choices
For longer commutes and low-effort ownership, the 2024 Camry Hybrid is an appealing place to start; a four-cylinder gas example may have a simpler purchase decision where mileage is low. The V6 is more specialist and can command a different used premium. Compare the 2024 Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota’s own 2025 Camry against the exact model year and specification. Rear-seat comfort is generous but a sedan trunk cannot replace a hatchback’s tall loading aperture. Any long-term reliability or recall conclusion should be VIN-specific, not inferred from the brand name.
