The new Tiguan reaching European dealers in 2024 is the third-generation SUV, and it must not be confused with the older-generation Tiguan still associated with the 2024 name in other markets. Volkswagen’s European announcement covers petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid choices in one body family. The choice among those drivetrains changes the value of a used example far more than a small cosmetic difference. This record concerns the European release in calendar 2024 rather than an invented uniform worldwide MY2024.
Powertrains, equipment and market specifications
Volkswagen listed a 96-kW eTSI mild-hybrid version at entry level, with TDI diesel alternatives and later eHybrid plug-in hybrids rated at 150 kW and 200 kW in the manufacturer’s European presentation. The eHybrid announcement describes around 120 km of potential electric driving under its stated assumptions, not a number that should be presented as US EPA range. Some all-wheel-drive diesel grades were documented with towing capability up to 2,300 kg, which must not be attributed to every Tiguan. Grade-dependent Matrix headlights and seat comfort functions are not universal.
Checking a used example
On a 2024 European used Tiguan, verify the vehicle-generation code, engine badge and original option list. The plug-in hybrid makes most sense when it is charged regularly; a buyer who cannot plug in should calculate ownership value differently. For diesels, service history and usage pattern matter, and mechanical checks should be conducted by a qualified workshop rather than guessed from online anecdotes. Test phone pairing, navigation and the controls that will be used daily, especially because the latest cockpit can feel different from the older one.
Who should buy it, and alternatives
The third-generation Tiguan fits buyers seeking a conventional family-SUV format with unusually varied powertrains. It may be more car than a city-only household needs, while someone who regularly uses all seven seats should look elsewhere because this is not a blanket three-row claim. Compare the Skoda Kodiaq, Peugeot 3008 and Hyundai Tucson in the same market and model year. Before transferring ratings, accessories or repair instructions from a North American vehicle, confirm that both cars truly share the relevant generation and component specification.
