A new CLA generation
Mercedes-Benz started European sales of its new electric CLA in 2025, making it an established purchase option during calendar 2026 rather than a 2026 concept waiting for approval. The electric sedan combines a distinct battery architecture with the new MB.OS digital environment. Buyers should not confuse it with earlier combustion CLA sedans or automatically assume that the high-voltage electric hardware carries over to announced hybrid versions.
Two power levels, one cited battery
The German launch specification lists CLA 250+ with EQ Technology at 200 kW, driving the rear wheels, and CLA 350 4MATIC at 260 kW with all-wheel drive. Both use a quoted 85-kWh usable battery. Mercedes published WLTP ranges of 694–792 km and 672–771 km, respectively, depending on configuration. These ranges are manufacturer homologation bands for the applicable European vehicles, not comparable to an EPA number from an American competitor without qualification.
Charging and digital ownership
A maximum 320-kW DC charging claim and 800-volt architecture can reduce suitable high-power charging stops, but peak input will not be sustained throughout a full charge and the operator’s site must support the vehicle. The new digital experience is a core selling feature; customers should ask which navigation, voice, media and assistance services require accounts, subscriptions or data connectivity after promotional periods expire. Practical ownership hinges as much on interface comfort as on the headline technical package.
Sedan benefits and boundaries
The CLA 250+ is a compelling choice for someone who values efficiency and long-distance planning over all-wheel-drive acceleration. CLA 350 4MATIC adds traction and performance but changes range and cost. Rear-seat room and luggage loading should be checked personally: a low sedan does not duplicate SUV utility. Compare the BMW i4, Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3 in the relevant European country. Do not transfer prices, plug standards or driver-assistance approvals from Germany to another market without documentation.
