Why an estate deserves a separate record
The new electric CLA Shooting Brake became available to order in Europe ahead of its 2026 market year. It shares a core technical family with the CLA electric sedan but addresses a distinctly different cargo-loading and estate-car use case, so it merits a separate body-style article. This does not mean every saloon and estate trim shares identical battery consumption, option availability or maximum range.
Technical choices
The manufacturer lists a 200-kW rear-drive CLA 250+ Shooting Brake and 260-kW all-wheel-drive CLA 350 4MATIC. Both cited launch versions use 85 kWh of usable battery energy, with maximum DC charging power of 320 kW and listed 22-kW AC capability. Mercedes publishes up to 768 km WLTP for the 250+ and up to 743 km for the 350 4MATIC. Confirm local equipment and homologation before comparing these maxima with sedan figures or the brand’s future lower-battery variants.
What the body change buys
Mercedes states 405 litres of luggage capacity under the VDA measurement used in its specification sheet. The main reason to choose this body is the hatch-style loading access and estate proportions rather than an expectation of an enormous SUV boot. Parents and pet owners should assess the actual aperture, load height, child-seat clearance and visibility. Roof-rack and trailer capacity also depend on a particular variant and must be verified separately.
The case for and against
This is aimed at drivers who prefer premium EV technology but need more flexible cargo access than a traditional coupe-like sedan. It may be less compelling than a compact electric SUV for high seating position and maximum cubic load space. Compare the BMW i5 Touring only with the caveat of its larger class, and locally available electric estates for closer size matches. Before ordering, confirm service coverage, winter tire fitments, software licensing and charging-station support; advertised WLTP range is not the same as independent motorway results.
