2026 Nissan Sentra: What Buyers Need to Know
Applicability: US; 2026 model year. This profile covers the ninth generation sedan. It does not transfer the listed specification to unrelated market versions or earlier generations.

- US — SR and SL: 2.0L naturally aspirated inline-four gasoline; Xtronic CVT; FWD. power: 149 hp; torque: 146 lb-ft; EPA combined: 32 mpg (SR/SL). Test standard: EPA (grade-specific).
What is distinct about this version
Nissan introduced a substantially redesigned 2026 Sentra with new exterior and interior treatments, additional standard screen and safety equipment, but retained a familiar 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine and CVT.
The redesign is mostly about the cabin
The 2026 Sentra changes how a budget-oriented sedan feels to use rather than promising a more powerful engine. A standard 12.3-inch centre display and wireless smartphone mirroring create a contemporary everyday interface. Higher versions offer a second 12.3-inch display, more cabin trim and available ProPILOT Assist, but that equipment is not identical across S, SV, SR and SL. For a buyer comparing adverts, photos of the instrument panel and the original window sticker can be more revealing than the badge alone.
A known engine, a revised transmission calibration
The 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine remains rated at 149 horsepower and drives the front wheels through an Xtronic CVT. Nissan describes revised calibration for more natural acceleration, not a new turbocharged or hybrid powertrain. The SR’s visual sport treatment should not be mistaken for additional engine output; its larger wheels and different grade-specific efficiency figure also deserve attention. Drivers who value a conventional stepped automatic or an electrified drivetrain should cross-shop accordingly.
Used-buyer priorities
A small sedan can be an economical alternative to a crossover if cabin access, rear headroom and luggage opening work for the household. Sentra provides a documented 14.3-cubic-foot trunk in the US press kit, but owners transporting bulky strollers should check the actual opening. Examine CVT service records, wheel damage and whether driver-assistance systems operate without warnings. An official equipment list does not establish reliability, and early production cars have too short an ownership history for confident life-span claims.
