2026 Škoda Kodiaq: Mild Hybrid, Diesel and Plug-In Hybrid
Market: EU. Year basis: documented 2026 commercial offering; local calendar-year nomenclature.
Market identity and 2026 changes
Europe’s second-generation Kodiaq offers several genuinely different approaches to family transport: mild-hybrid petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid. By October 2026, Škoda had also announced that customers could order an uprated 200 kW iV and a Laurin & Klement equipment level. This does not justify calling every 2026 Kodiaq a 200 kW plug-in hybrid. Existing 150 kW iV versions continue alongside the new offer, and the buyer must confirm the precise local order and delivery specification.
Engines, drivetrains and certified data
A basic 1.5 TSI mild-hybrid produces 110 kW and uses a seven-speed DSG. The 142 kW 2.0 TDI is among the higher-output diesel choices with all-wheel drive. For the original iV plug-in hybrid, combined output is 150 kW and Škoda claims more than 100 km electric WLTP range. The October addition develops 200 kW using a 130 kW petrol engine and 85 kW motor; the 25.7 kWh gross battery has 19.7 kWh net and is quoted with up to 50 kW DC charging. Gross is not usable capacity.
| Variant | Powertrain | Transmission | Drive | Manufacturer evidence | Measurement |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 TSI mHEV | 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol, 110 kW | 7-speed DSG | FWD | power: 110 kW | not asserted |
| 2.0 TDI AWD | 2.0L turbodiesel, 142 kW | 7-speed DSG | AWD | power: 142 kW | not asserted |
| iV 150 kW | 1.5L petrol + motor, 150 kW combined | 6-speed DSG | FWD | battery gross: 25.7 kWh; WLTP EV range: more than 100 km | WLTP manufacturer |
| iV 200 kW newly orderable Oct 22 | 1.5 TSI 130 kW + motor 85 kW; system 200 kW | DSG automatic | FWD | battery gross: 25.7 kWh; battery net: 19.7 kWh; DC peak: 50 kW | WLTP EV range >100 km claimed |
Buying strengths and trade-offs
Which version makes sense depends strongly on charging access. A regularly charged PHEV may cover commuting with much less petrol use than a frequently depleted example; a driver unable to plug in should question the extra mass and upfront cost. Diesel can make sense for repeat loaded highway journeys, subject to local taxation and emissions restrictions. The mild hybrid asks less of the owner but cannot deliver substantial pure-electric journeys like the plug-in configuration.
Alternatives and choosing a grade
Compare the Kodiaq with the Peugeot 5008, Hyundai Santa Fe and related VW Group family SUVs by actual seating, boot volume and country-specific equipment. The Kodiaq iV’s drive layout and charging equipment do not automatically apply to the diesel AWD version. New Laurin & Klement comfort additions may attract buyers who value seats and cabin finishing more than outright output. For a third-row family, checking the chosen powertrain’s seating availability is essential.
Ownership and 2026 used-car checks
Used 2026 candidates need documentation proving whether they use the 150 kW or later 200 kW plug-in system. Battery charging performance, DC connector access and software version should be checked from the actual car. Service records matter for turbo engines and DSG variants, but this is not an allegation of a verified defect. The WLTP electric range is a test-cycle claim; cold weather, speed and heating can alter useful range substantially.
