Vehicle scope: calendar-year 2020 introduction or documented sale in UK; P21 second-generation BEV, hatchback. Market/trim verification remains essential.
Documented configuration: 100kW / 136hp front electric motor; 50kWh nominal traction battery, automatic single-speed reduction drive; original UK 211mi WLTP maker claim. A quoted range or economy cycle, where present, applies only to its stated market and test procedure.
The 2020 vehicle and its actual year boundary
The original e-208 carried Peugeot’s new P21 small-hatch design into electric propulsion, sold into the 2020 European market. Its electric hardware merits distinct buying guidance from the petrol PureTech and diesel BlueHDi 208 versions. A 2020 e-208 should not acquire later battery improvements, 2023 trim technology or a 156hp motor through careless current-model data copying.
Verified powertrains and technical limits
Peugeot’s UK launch specifications identify a 50kWh electric battery, 136hp motor and an initial quoted 211 miles of WLTP range. These are launch-era maker figures tied to a particular market and certification, not a promise for a six-year-old battery or winter motorway journey. The petrol 75, 100 and 130 engine range described in the same release is context, not a second engine fitted to an e-208.
What it is like to live with this configuration
For owners who can recharge overnight, the electric e-208 offers the familiar dimensions and cabin of a small hatch without petrol refuelling. It is less appealing when long trips depend on uncertain chargers or the driver frequently needs rear-seat and luggage space. Correctly separating gross/usable energy and charge-rate units is important when planning stops. A used early e-208 should be identified by battery and motor generation, not just its exterior appearance. Read the actual state-of-charge display at the beginning and end of an appropriately long test, then examine whether the available local DC charging network matches the car’s connector and intended travel.
What a used buyer should check in 2026
Before purchase test AC and DC charging as appropriate, charge-port closure, HVAC, software state and driver-assistance equipment. Ask for a professional high-voltage battery report and identify the market charge connector. Never assume a later revised range figure or factory infotainment feature was retrofitted to this early specimen.
Alternatives and the decision
Opel Corsa-e shares broad European EV technology but has different styling and equipment, while MINI Electric has a smaller battery and different cabin use. A petrol 208 might make more sense for occasional driving without a charging base.
