2021 XPeng P7: 1st generation

The 2021 XPeng P7 was a young Chinese electric sports sedan with a long wheelbase and unusually broad battery and drivetrain choices. Its sleek body can disguise significant differences in both driven wheels and battery range. A used shopper should not assume that a P7 advertised with the largest company range automatically shares the acceleration and equipment of the highest-performance version.

Which 2021 vehicle is this?

XPeng began P7 deliveries in May 2020, adding further variants in 2021, including the P7 Wing appearance edition and some models with lithium iron phosphate battery chemistry. The company’s 2021 annual report gives a 2,998-mm wheelbase and a 480–706-km NEDC-rated range envelope. That broad span does not represent one vehicle tested twice, and should never be relabeled WLTP.

This profile applies to China and identifies a vehicle offered during calendar 2021. Registrations, facelifts and equipment in other jurisdictions are not interchangeable. A specification mentioned below applies only to the named version; optional equipment and later software or homologation changes need separate documentation.

What matters in everyday ownership

For long-distance passengers, the stretched wheelbase and low sedan styling may be attractive, but the sloping roof and trunk opening involve compromises against an SUV. Some versions favor high efficiency and rear-drive simplicity, while others add a second motor for stronger traction. Extensive infotainment and software capability can be a benefit only if service and accounts continue to work where the car is registered.

Used-buying checks in 2026

Check exactly which motor, battery chemistry and 2021 equipment version is being offered. Read software and warranty status and confirm app/account transferability. Ask for charge-port verification, battery diagnostics, comprehensive accident inspection and drivetrain checks. The NEDC 706-km headline is no more a guaranteed motorway outcome than an EPA or WLTP laboratory result would be.

Alternatives and limits

XPeng P5 offers a different family-sedan emphasis at a shorter wheelbase, while Tesla Model 3, BYD Han EV and NIO ET-class sedans represent different China-market compromises. Do not compare 2021 P7 NEDC directly with international WLTP/EPA Model 3 figures or assume driver-assistance systems operate equivalently between manufacturers.
