2022 Kia EV6: Specifications, Variants and Buying Guide
2022 Kia EV6 — this record documents the US formal model-year configuration of the crossover. It does not assume a single worldwide drivetrain, certified range or equipment list.
What changed and why it matters
The 2022 Kia EV6 launched Kia's distinctive interpretation of a dedicated electric crossover platform in the United States. Its low roof, long wheelbase and fast-charging architecture distinguish it from an ordinary combustion SUV converted to electric drive. However, the 2022 badge covers fundamentally different batteries and driven axles. A Light with a smaller pack is not a short-range version of the same 310-mile RWD configuration, and the AWD version has its own EPA result.
Powertrains, batteries and 2022 market specifications
- US · Light RWD — single-motor battery electric; RWD; single-speed. battery nominal kWh: 58.0; output hp: 167; epa range miles: 232. Cycle: EPA.
- US · Wind/GT-Line RWD — single-motor battery electric; RWD; single-speed. battery nominal kWh: 77.4; output hp: 225; epa range miles: 310. Cycle: EPA.
- US · Wind/GT-Line AWD — dual-motor battery electric; AWD; single-speed. battery nominal kWh: 77.4; combined output hp: 320; epa range miles: 274. Cycle: EPA.
Who should consider it?
A buyer with routine access to charging should consider the long-range rear-drive EV6 before assuming all-wheel drive is necessary. Its 77.4 kWh battery and EPA-rated 310 miles make it attractive for efficiency and highway travel planning; the AWD setup trades some range for traction and higher system output. The 58.0 kWh Light can suit predictable commuting, provided the buyer understands its shorter certified range. Cabin packaging rewards four-adult use more than the coupe-like silhouette initially suggests.
Ownership trade-offs and limitations
The EV6's 800-volt-class architecture permits exceptionally quick charging under favorable station, battery temperature and state-of-charge conditions, but a manufacturer's peak is not a permanent charging rate. Cold weather, wheel choice, speed and station performance can change outcomes. Ask for charge-port condition, battery health information where available, and the exact original trim. Do not apply 2023 GT performance figures to this early 2022 EV6.
Worthwhile alternatives
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 shares important underlying architecture but offers a more upright shape and different cabin feel. A Tesla Model Y provides a different charging-network and software proposition, while the Volkswagen ID.4 favors a conventional SUV layout. The EV6 is strongest for buyers prioritizing distinct styling, flexibility between RWD and AWD, and capable road-trip charging while accepting that it is not a high-riding off-road vehicle.
2022 identity and data caveats
EPA combined driving ranges are U.S.-specific certification values. WLTP or Korean certification figures are deliberately excluded from these U.S. variants.
