A 2024 EV6 is not one fixed specification. Kia expanded the US range with a long-range Light grade, making the entry name especially deceptive on second-hand listings. The original E-GMP vehicle's low roofline, generous wheelbase and unusually styled cabin form its appeal, but luggage shape, rearward visibility and access to convenient fast charging will matter more in ownership than its futuristic appearance.
Powertrains and market-specific specifications
The manufacturer's 2024 figures show a 58.0-kWh Light rear-drive version with 167 hp and an EPA-estimated 232 miles. The 77.4-kWh long-range rear-drive variants produce 225 hp and reach a stated 310 EPA miles in qualifying configurations. Available dual-motor AWD produces 320 hp, while the GT rises to 576 hp but carries an EPA estimate of 218 miles. These ratings must never be swapped between wheel, powertrain and trim configurations.
Equipment, usability and model-year changes
Changes for 2024 include the new Light long-range choices and improved charging-port illumination and markings. Kia's release also specifies the GT's improved 2024 EPA range compared with its previous model year. A used buyer should establish whether the car is the performance GT, appearance-oriented GT-Line or ordinary Wind. They are materially different ownership decisions even where the battery energy rating is shared.
Used-buyer inspection and ownership trade-offs
For an EV6 inspection, obtain battery state-of-health documentation where available, review DC-charging history if accessible and check for any open VIN-specific service campaigns. Try the actual charging cable and confirm the connector, onboard AC-charging capability and charging network plan for the country of use. A healthy battery on paper does not guarantee fast charging at a cold battery or a low-output station.
Which buyers should consider it?
The EV6 suits drivers who value long-distance charging potential and a more car-like stance than many SUVs. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an obvious technical cousin with different packaging; the Kia Niro EV is simpler and less performance-focused. Calculate electricity costs using your electricity tariff and trip profile rather than treating EPA miles as predicted motorway range or confusing US ratings with WLTP numbers.
