The 2024 Scorpio-N deserves its own Indian-market entry because Mahindra changed the value proposition of the Z8 range during the calendar year. The vehicle itself is not a new-generation launch for 2024, having appeared earlier, but February brought the Z8 Select and July added further cabin conveniences to higher trims. Those changes affect an actual used purchase: two seemingly identical 2024 registrations could have different phone, ventilation and seating features. The substantial body-on-frame structure also distinguishes this model from crossover SUVs aimed mostly at urban conditions.
Powertrain and 2024 market specification
Mahindra’s 2024 Z8 Select release describes turbocharged petrol and diesel powertrains, with petrol output of 149.14 kW (200 PS) and diesel output of 128.6 kW (175 PS). Manual and automatic six-speed transmissions were offered within the highlighted range. Specific four-wheel-drive configurations and electronic differential aids belong to certain diesel grades rather than every Scorpio-N. In July Mahindra identified ventilated seats and an actively cooled wireless charger for Z8 L, but a plain Z8 or Z8 Select should not automatically be credited with those features.
What to examine on a used example
Check a candidate’s original variant invoice and build date before treating a brochure from later in 2024 as universal. On a used example inspect for off-road impacts, uneven tyre wear, underbody and suspension damage, and the operation of any selectable 4WD equipment. Test the transmission on a long mixed drive and check service records for the actual engine fitted. Where there are multiple seating arrangements, verify the second- and third-row configuration rather than assuming a particular seat count from the nameplate. Assess electronic convenience features individually.
Buyer fit, limitations and alternatives
The Scorpio-N is suited to buyers prioritising commanding seating, utility and selected versions’ four-wheel-drive capabilities. A Mahindra XUV700 is a materially different cross-shopping proposition with its own architecture and comfort priorities; the Toyota Innova-style MPV may serve passenger-duty owners better. Towing, off-road ability and safety equipment should be investigated by actual trim and regulation, not one sweeping claim about the entire Scorpio brand. The 2024 Z8 Select makes for a particularly important value-versus-equipment comparison within the range.
