The Windsor EV entered India in September 2024 as a spacious battery-electric crossover with a tall, almost MPV-like interior. It should not be confused with an international MG SUV that simply shares the octagonal badge. JSW MG’s launch also promoted an unusual Battery-as-a-Service purchase structure, in which the battery rental cost and vehicle purchase can be separated. For a 2026 used buyer that commercial detail can be more significant than the vehicle’s nominal price: establish who owns the pack, whether a rental contract transfers and how charges are calculated before discussing finance.
Verified powertrains and equipment
The launch Windsor features a 38 kWh battery and a front electric motor rated at 100 kW and 200 Nm. MG’s original publicity included a 331 km range claim; its subsequent September 21 manufacturer announcement gave an ARAI-certified 332 km. These figures refer to the period Indian certification and cannot be compared directly with EPA miles or a WLTP result. A large 15.6-inch centre screen and reclining rear-seat arrangement form part of the model’s appeal, but equipment and battery-warranty terms need confirmation for the particular ownership programme.
What to check before buying used
A used Windsor deserves both a mechanical and contractual assessment. Test normal AC charging and ask for evidence of DC charging function where the seller can demonstrate it safely. Check whether the charging cable is included, whether subscriptions and connected services can be transferred, and whether any manufacturer battery guarantee is still applicable to a second owner. Examine tyres, underbody battery protection and rear-seat controls, and ask a competent EV technician to assess warning codes. Do not use a brief displayed range figure as a quantified battery-health test.
Best fit, compromises and competitors
Windsor suits Indian households wanting a spacious urban EV with regular charging and comfortable rear accommodation. The trade-offs are its dependence on charging infrastructure and the need to untangle vehicle, battery and service contracts. Compare Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3 and other similarly sized vehicles using Indian-certified range figures and the full transaction cost. A buyer unable to install a charging point should calculate public charging time and cost before purchasing rather than assume an EV automatically saves money.
